Coronavirus Policy

It is the policy of this facility that Respiratory isolation (Droplet Precautions) will be followed by proper PPE for the Coronavirus.

  • Determined by the Physician
  • To prevent the spread of infection to other residents
  • With a sign on the door to indicate isolation technique used
  • With limited visitation

Special Precautions

With respiratory isolation for Coronavirus the following specifications will be observed:
  • Private room if available - Confinement to the room is required
  • Gowns
  • Gloves
  • Masks-must be worn by all persons entering the room
  • Eye protection-confirmed or suspected of virus
  • Sphygmomanometer, Pulse Oximeters and Stethoscope - should be placed in the room and remain in the room until isolation is discontinued. Items must be disinfected before removed from the room or thrown away
  • Thermometer - should remain in the room. Thermometer should be discarded upon termination of isolation
  • Dishes - Disposable dishes should be used for positive covid-19 residents. Dishes and remaining food should be discarded in the trash bag in the room
  • Laboratory Specimens - should be placed in a bag and labeled as biohazard prior to leaving room and taking to lab
  • Needle and Syringes - no special precautions
  • Dressing and tissues - must be placed in a plastic bag and sealed tightly before being placed in the trash
  • Linens - Should be placed in yellow precaution bag before they are removed from the room
  • Trash - must be double bagged before being taken from the room
  • Cleaning - routine daily cleaning should be done as with other resident rooms
  • Terminal disinfectant - No airing is required if there is good ventilation, general cleaning procedures for discharged residents are used

Visitation Policy

It is the policy of Daniel Health Care, Inc. to help promote safe resident/family visits during a global pandemic. The facility strives to maintain connection with the families to better meet the psycho-social needs of the residents.
Core principles of Covid-19 lnfection Prevention will be followed:
  • Screening of all who enter the facility for signs and symptoms of Covid- l 9{e.g., temperature checks, questions about and observations of signs or symptoms), and denial of entry of those with signs or symptoms or those who have had close contact with someone with Covid-19 infection in the prior 14 days (regardless of the visitor's vaccination status.)
  • Hand hygiene (use of alcohol-based hand rub is preferred.
  • Face covering or mask (covering mouth and nose).
  • Social distancing at least six feet between persons.
  • Instructional signage throughout the facility and proper visitor education on Covid-19 signs and symptoms, infection control precautions, other applicable facility practices (e.g., use of face covering or mask, specified entries, exits and routes to designated areas, hand hygiene).
  • Cleaning and disinfecting high- frequency touched surfaces in the facility often, and designated visitation areas after each visit.
Indoor visitation principles will be followed:
  • Facilities should allow indoor visitation at all times and for all residents (regardless of vaccination status), except for a few circumstances when visitation should be limited due to a high risk of Covid-19 transmissions (note: compassionate care visits should be permitted at all times). These scenarios include limiting indoor visitation for:
    • Unvaccinated residents, if the nursing home's Covid-19 county positivity rate is >10% and <70% of residents in the facility are fully vaccinated;
    • Residents with confirmed Covid-19 infection, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated until they have met the criteria to discontinue Transmission­ Based Precautions.
    • Residents in quarantine, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, until they have met criteria for release from quarantine.
  • Unvaccinated residents or those who have not met the fully vaccinated definition will continue to social distance and wear source control (well fitted mask). Visitors must continue to social distance and wear source control as well.
  • Unvaccinated residents will be allowed 2 visitors at one time and must visit in dining room or common area.
  • Fully vaccinated residents can choose to have visits in their room. If resident is fully vaccinated and the visitors are fully vaccinated then they may choose to have close contact (including touch) with their visitors while not wearing source control.
  • Fully vaccinated residents with visitors whom are not fully vaccinated may have in room visits. Vaccinated resident can choose to have close contact (including touch) with their unvaccinated visitor while both continue to wear source control.
  • It is recommended that fully vaccinated residents limit visitors to no more than 4 at one time.
  • Visitors should wear source control and physically distance from other HCP/residents/visitors that are not part of their group at all times while in the facility.
  • Visitors should be discouraged at all times from moving about the facility.
  • Visitors will enter and exit through the front entrance during visiting hours. After hours visitation will enter and exit through Hummingbird. All visitors will be screened by staff in both locations upon entry to the facility.
  • Performing hand hygiene before and after visit is recommended.
  • Visitation schedule will M-F from 8:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Visitation outside of these times will be available by making appointments.

Indoor visitation during an outbreak:

An outbreak exists when a new nursing home onset ofCovid-19 occurs (e.g. a new Covid-19 case among residents or staff).

  • When a new case of Covid-19 among residents or staff is identified, a facility should immediately begin outbreak testing and suspend all visitation (except that required under federal disability rights law), until at least one round of facility­ wide testing is completed, Visitation can resume based on the following criteria:
    • If the first round of outbreak testing reveals no additional Covid-19 cases in other areas (e.g., units) of the facility, then visitation can resume for residents in areas/unit with no Covid-19 cases. However, the facility should suspend visitation on the affected unit until the facility meets the criteria to discontinue outbreak testing.
    • If the first round of outbreak testing reveals one or more additional Covid-19 cases in the other areas/units of the facility (e.g., new cases in two or more units), then facilitates should suspend visitation for all residents (vaccinated and unvaccinated), until the facility meets the criteria to discontinues outbreak testing.
Compassionate Care Visits:
  • Compassionate care visits will be allowed at all times for any resident (vaccinated or unvaccinated) regardless of the outbreak status, vaccination status or the county's Covid-19 positivity rate.
  • Compassionate care visit situations should be approved by administration.
  • Compassionate care visits may include: family members, clergy, or any individual that can meet the resident's needs.
