Physical Therapy addresses the areas of walking, bed mobility, and transfers. Physical therapists assess joint motion, muscle strength, and endurance, cardiac and pulmonary function, sensation and perception, integrity of the skin, muscle tone and reflexes, and performance of functional activities.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy assists patients to regain their self-care independence in areas such as bathing, toileting, and home management. Occupational therapists use their understanding of growth and development, performance skills, and the social, emotional, and physiological impact of illness or injury to assist patients in overcoming the obstacles that limit their ability to do the things that they need and want to do.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy assists patients in the areas of speech and language skills, swallowing, memory, and cognition. Speech therapists evaluate and diagnose a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders, including those due to trauma or stroke.

Specialty Training

In addition to their collegiate education, all of our therapists continue to pursue post-graduate training in their respective disciplines. Several of our therapists have become certified in specific types of treatments that are extremely helpful to particular diagnoses. Some of the types of specialty training are:

VitalStim Therapy

An innovative new treatment that can retrain facial and swallowing musculature that has been damaged from cerebral accident or injury. Vital Stim is the first treatment of its kind to be approved by the FDA for neuromuscular retraining of the swallowing muscles.

NDT (Neurodevelopmental Treatment)

NDT is an advanced therapeutic approach practiced by experienced therapists with extensive training. This “hands on” treatment approach can assist individuals who have had central nervous system insults such as a stroke that create difficulties in controlling movement. Therapists who practice NDT techniques have extensive training and knowledge of normal and abnormal development patterns.

Manual Lymphatic Treatment

Manual Lymphatic Treatment is a specialized treatment that stimulates the lymphatic system in order to reduce excessive edema. Our occupational therapists are certified in MLT and have seen tremendous improvements in the lives of patients who suffer with chronic edema or lymphedema.

Kinesiotaping

Kinesiotape is a type of fabric athletic tape that when applied by a qualified therapist, can be utilized to support a joint, improve range of motion, reduce pain, or assist in reducing bruising or edema. Two of our therapists are Certified Kinesiotaping Professionals.
